The Tillandsia pruinosa has leaves that may be various shades of green, and the whole plant is covered in numerous silvery specks. Its leaves point out towards all directions and while the plant is quite young you may notice that the leaves are upright and only slightly wavy, but as the plant matures its leaves grow long and form more visible waves, and instead of remaining upright they may curve inwards and around the plant. A puffy salmon-colored inflorescence blooms out of the center, and grows violet flowers with yellow stamens. This fascinating species is eye-catching because the inflorescence looks like a beautiful gem trapped amongst contorted vines, like something out of a sci-fi movie.
