The Tillandsia kolbii was created by crossing the Tillandsia ionantha and the Tillandsia scaposa. It has pale green leaves that are attached to a silvery base. Its leaves are thick and tapered, each blade ending in a fine point. The leaves grow with a slight curve, and sometimes they all curve towards the same direction, but other times they also curve out in different directions. Over time, the plant’s leaves blush red, and pale violet flowers bloom amongst the numerous leaves. This species is a simple beauty, it is not too overwhelming, nor is it too plain. It is beautiful on its own but can complement other plants and decorations as well.
